World Expo is one of the most prominent international events on the global stage. Located in Osaka, Kansai in Japan for 2025, the annual event brings together over 150 countries from around the world in an effort to address issues facing humankind on a global scale. Of this year’s national showcases under the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, Australia attracted wide attention with its immersive pavilion, ‘Chasing the Sun’. Designed to reflect the country’s vibrant energy, creative spirit, rich cultural heritage, and awe-inspiring natural beauty, the pavilion immersed its audiences with dynamic storytelling and innovative displays.
Absen, a global leader in LED display solutions, brought this vision to life with its advanced visual technology to create a compelling and culturally rich visitor experience. The Australian Pavilion incorporated four major Absen product ranges, totalling over 240m² of high-performance LED displays, including:
- Absen’s K1.8 V3, is at the heart of the pavilion, totalling 29 screens and covering 123.5m², with an installation combination of steel structures and wall integrations. The LED is strategically positioned throughout the pavilion’s key thematic zones, including Sea Country, Land Country, the Entrance and Exit Portals, as well as the VIP Entrance. The installation encompasses the rear wall, east and west façades, as well as three tree-shaped displays and three Australian map-themed LED features. Together, these elements form a cohesive and compelling visual narrative, enhancing the storytelling experience.
- Also located in the Sea Country zone, Absen’s PL 2.9 Plus V2 series plays a pivotal role in enhancing the immersive storytelling through a dynamic overhead display. Totalling 45m² across 5 screens, the installation is suspended using a combination of steel structures and ceiling beams. The configuration includes four ceiling-integrated panels and a striking ‘sunscreen’ feature, enhancing the thematic atmosphere with vivid visual effects that draws the visitors’ attention upward.
- Three Absen X136” all-in-one screens were installed in the VIP function room via wall-mounting, providing high-definition presentations for private events and meetings.
A large format 12m x 16m forecourt screen, made up of Absen’s PL 2.9W Plus V2, was installed using a fixed steel frame, covering 70m² of display surface, providing dynamic visual content for arriving visitors.
Through Absen’s LED display solutions, the pavilion encourages visitors to partake in a multisensory journey across Australia’s unique landscapes and cultures. Inside, visitors are taken on a captivating sensory journey: they follow the sun across Australia’s diverse landscapes, gaze into star-filled skies, explore deep-sea environments, listen to the distinctive calls of native wildlife, and learn about Indigenous Australians. The immersive visuals powered by Absen’s high-resolution LED displays have drawn large crowds, with many attendees stopping to admire the immersive features and capture unforgettable moments. - Underwater Wonders: the Sea Country zone transports visitors to the vibrant marine ecosystems of Australia, where displays showcase its varied and rich biodiversity.
- Celestial Skies: A recreation of the Australian night sky using Absen LED, highlighting ancient indigenous navigation techniques, seasonal cycles, and spiritual connections between land and the stars.
- Immersive Forest Experience: Upon entering the pavilion, visitors are greeted by a striking visual installation featuring six-metre-tall eucalyptus tree structures, seamlessly integrated with Absen LED panels. These displays simulate the dappled effect of natural sunlight filtering through the canopy, while animated representations of iconic Australian wildlife bring the scene to life.
